Girl Scouts ‘feed The County’
EASTON NEWS
by Debbie Smith
Easton Girl Scout Troop 691 is holding its second annual “Food from the Heart” food drive. The troop will be collecting food on Saturday, March 9, at the Aroostook Centre Mall from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
There are also collection boxes around the community for those who would like to help but are unable to come to the mall. The girls collected almost 100 boxes of food last year and have a set goal of 150 to 200 boxes for this year. All food donations will be delivered to Catholic Charities’ Feed the County program the following week. Please help the girls as they need help to “Feed the County.” If you have any questions, call Kyla Legassie at 488-6689.
Stew Night
The Little School Restoration Committee welcomes all to attend a spring stew night Saturday, March 23, from 4:30-7 p.m. at the Odd Fellow’s Hall in Easton. This meal will include a variety of stews and an ice cream bar. The cost will be by donations. All money raised will go towards restoring the old school on the Station Road. Hope to see you there.
Sympathy
Our sympathy goes out to the family of Joan Gray. Joan was married to Hughie Gray for over 60 years. She will be greatly missed. Our prayers are with the family.
Our deepest sympathy goes out to the family of Harold “Hank” Kierstead. Hank died very unexpectedly last week. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. You will be missed, Hank.
Restaurant gives back
Please consider dining at Ruby Tuesday Restaurant, at the Presque Isle Mall, on the following days to support Easton schools in purchasing new cafeteria tables: Wednesday, March 6, Thursday, March 7, and Friday, March 8. Twenty percent of your purchase will be donated to Easton schools on those days. Please print and give the GiveBack flyer to your server to ensure that 20 percent of your bill will support the Easton community. For more information call the Easton Elementary School at 488-7701.
Book Fair
The Easton Elementary School will host a Scholastic Book Fair the week of March 11-15, with specific times to be posted on the Easton School Department website. Families, faculty and the community are invited to attend this fun reading event that helps inspire children to become lifelong readers. The Book Fair will feature a special Family Math Night with dinner and door prizes on Thursday, March 14, from 5-7 p.m. Each family will take home a free math kit. The book fair will also be available that evening for families to purchase books.
The Book Fair offers specially-priced books and educational products, including popular series award-winning titles, new releases, adult bestsellers and other great reads from more than 100 publishers.
Book Fair customers may help the school build classroom libraries by purchasing books through the Classroom Wish List program. In addition, the Book Fair will feature the One for Books program, where kids can share the thrill of reading by donating loose change to purchase books from the Book Fair for the school library. Scholastic matches monetary donations with a donation of up to one million books, which go to national non-profit organizations dedicated to helping families in need, such as the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc. and Kids in Need Foundation.
