McDonald’s hoop event has local flavor

    The Maine Association of Basketball Coaches (MABC) announced A/B East and C/D East player selections for the for the 2013 Maine McDonald’s High School Senior All-Star Basketball Games. 

    Players representing 67 high schools from across the state have been honored with selection to the all-star teams. The all-stars were selected based upon ballot returns on a statewide high school basketball coaches’ vote conducted by the MABC in January.
    The 2013 Maine McDonald’s High School Senior All-Star Games will be played at Newman Gymnasium on the campus of Husson University in Bangor on Saturday, March 9.  The game-day program will feature head-to-head competition between top players in the state’s A/B and C/D boys and girls divisions. The schedule is as follows: 8:30-9 a.m., state foul shooting championship; 9:15-10:30 a.m., boys C/D game; 10:30-10:45 a.m., slam dunk competition; 11-12:15 p.m., boys A/B game; 12:15-12:30 p.m., MABC presentations; 12:45-2 p.m., girls A/B game; 2-2:15 p.m., three-point shooting competition and 2:30-3:45 p.m., girls C/D game.
    All-star players, all-star coaches, members of the all-state academic teams, regional foul shooting champions, Maine McDonald’s Spirit of the Game Award recipients, the MABC Contributor Award honoree, and Mr. and Miss Basketball will be recognized at an awards banquet on Friday, March 8, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Husson University’s Newman Gymnasium.
    Girls A/B East – Denae Johnson, Bangor; Jordan Knowlton, Camden Hills; Josie Lee, Cony; Ashlee Arnold, Edward Little; Kristen Anderson, Leavitt; Mallory Nelson, Mt. Ararat; Gabby Foy, Mt. Blue; Abbie Eastman, Oxford Hills; Chandler Guerrette, Presque Isle; and Megan Ireland, Presque Isle. 
    Coaches are Craig Jipson, Edward Little;  and Jeff Hudson, Presque Isle.
    Boys A/B East – Connor Hart, Camden Hills; Devin Duncan, Erskine Academy; Quin Leary, Edward Little; Tyler Norris, Hampden Academy; Matt Palmer, Hampden Academy; Spencer Carey, Lawrence; Kyle Boucher, Maranacook Community; Benjamin Walls, Mount Desert Island; John Murray, Medomak Valley; Garrett Libby, Old Town; and Tyler Brooks, Presque Isle.
    Coaches are Russ Bartlett, Hampden Academy; and Jared Browne, Winslow.
    Girls C/D East – Mackenzi McHugh, Central; Chelsea Brown, Deer Isle-Stonington; Jordyn Bell, Dexter; Lauren Crane, Dexter; Lacey McQuarrie, Hodgdon; Jordan Maxwell, Lee Academy; Taylor Blood, Mattanawcook Academy; Jillian Woodward, Orono; Lexi Larson, Penquis Valley; Kristin Thompson, Schenck; and Alex Mooney, Stearns.
    Coaches are Jody Grant, Dexter; and Derrick Thompson, Schenck.
    Boys C/D East – Devin Hall, Calais; Sam Grindle, Deer Isle-Stonington; Stephen Lewis, Fort Fairfield; Josh Hudson, Hodgdon; Garet Beal, Jonesport-Beals; Colton Bivighouse, Katahdin; Julian Diggs, Lee Academy; Dustin Getchell, Machias; Riley Whitney, Stearns; and Mitchell Worcester, Washburn.
    Coaches are Gordon Faulkingham, Jonesport-Beals; and  Tony Hamlin, Penquis Valley.
    The regional foul shooting champions are as follows: boys, North Region: Bivighouse, Katahdin; East Region: Beal, Jonesport-Beals; Central Region: Derek LeBlanc, Madison; and South Region:  Dustin Cole, Bonny Eagle.
    Girls, North Region: Ireland, Presque Isle; East Region: Woodward, Orono; Central Region: Emily Keene, Spruce Mountain; and South Region: Chloe Smedley, York.
    Carla Halvorson of Easton is the only local student selected to the all-state academic team.
