Towns ready for Winterfest 2013

The 13th annual Mars Hill and Blaine Winterfest will be held on March 8, 9 and 10. The following events are to take place:
• Friday, March 8: From 4:30-6:30 p.m. will feature a turkey dinner with potatoes, stuffing, vegetable and dessert. Sponsored by the Mars Hill Rotary Club, cost is $6 per person.
There will also be meals delivered to any who find it hard to get out by contacting Steve Hitchcock or Bruce Hussey. Also on tap from 4:30-6:30 p.m. will be youth basketball games featuring grades 1 and 2 at CAHS. On Friday night at 7 p.m., the Mars Hill and Blaine Community Center will be the place to be as the Mars Hill Community Players present “Cruisin’ Thru The ‘50s.” Admission is $5 per person with the doors closing promptly at 7 p.m.
• On Saturday, the following events will take place at CAHS: The Saint Patrick’s Day Breakfast, sponsored by the Mars Hill and Blaine Community Club, will be held from 6-9 a.m. Bacon, eggs and all the fixings will be available for $4 per plate. A bake sale will be set up by the Spanish Club parents from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. there will be a Penny Carnival sponsored by the Spanish Club as they raise funds for a trip to Spain. Free admission with ticket sales for carnival activities costing $3 for 10 tickets or $5 for 20. Buy either amount of tickets and get a hand stamp for free entrance to The Maine Jump, which will have five different activities on site — sponsored by the Winterfest Committee.
At 9:30 a.m. will be the Cribbage Tournament in the CAHS Music Room. Bring your own boards and $5 entry fee. Contact Dana Crory for more information at 425-7991.
At 10:30 a.m., the Spanish Club will offer lunch choices of hotdog, chips, drink and cookie for $4; 2 hotdogs, chips and drink for $5; baked potato and drink for $3.50 or a loaded baked potato and drink for $5.
From noon to 2:30 p.m. will be BINGO in the Music Room, run by the Presque Isle Elks. From 1-3 p.m. will be a sliding party at the Duane Grass residence on the Presque Isle Road. There will be a bonfire and hotdogs — sponsored by the Mars Hill Recreation Department and the Winterfest Committee. This event will be weather permitting.
On Saturday at 6 p.m., the Mars Hill and Blaine Community Center will be the place to be for a Dinner Theater. From 4:30-5:45 p.m., a carhop-style dinner of hotdogs, hamburgers, soda, brownies and ice cream will be offered for $5. At 6 p.m., the Mars Hill Community Players will present “Cruisin’ Thru the ‘50s.” Show admission is $5 per person with the doors closing promptly at 6 p.m.
Events at Bigrock include free triple chair lift skiing for Mars Hill, Blaine and Bridgewater residents from 4-8 p.m. For other Bigrock activities, check out their Facebook page.
At 8:30 p.m. will be the TorchLight Parade. Bring your own flashlight. A waiver will need to be signed before the parade.
At 9 p.m., fireworks will be set off by Central Maine Pyrotechnics — sponsored by the town of Mars Hill.
On Sunday, March 10, the Winterfest Youth Ski Race will take place for ages up to 14. $15 per person with registration from 8:30-9:30 a.m. The race will begin at 10 a.m.
Rotary Club
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met on Tuesday morning, Feb. 26, at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center.
The speaker was Rotarian Bill Getman, general manager at Bigrock. He spoke about the Ski Center and the many things that go into running the center.

Upcoming events for the week of March 6-12 include: Wednesday will have the Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Crossword Puzzles at 9:30 a.m., Residents Council at 1:30 p.m. and the Old Fashioned Revival Center at 6:30 p.m. Thursday will feature the Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Bingo at 9:30 a.m., and Karaoke with Fireman Fred at 1:30 p.m.
Friday will feature Horse Racing at 9:30 a.m. and Craft Time making Easter Bonnets at 1:30 p.m. Saturday will feature Bingo at 9:30 a.m. Sunday will be a free day — the start of Daylight Savings Time.
Monday will include Moving and Memories at 9:30 a.m., Karaoke with Larry and Birthday Party at 1:30 p.m. and Gospel Group at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday will feature Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Bingo at 9:30 a.m. and Card Games at 1:30 p.m.
