NEW SWEDEN — A brief meeting of the New Sweden School Board had members of the board unanimously approving the authorization to purchase a new school bus for the 2013-14 school year.
At the board’s last meeting in January, Interim Superintendent Roland Caron advised the members that he had been successful in getting the state to approve the purchase of a bus for New Sweden. At this meeting, Caron asked for the board’s approval to proceed with the purchase. Caron advised the board that the cost of the bus will be mostly subsidized by the state and that the school will make payments for their share over time instead of in one lump sum.
The board then discussed what to do with the bus that has been junked. The original thought was to put the old bus out to bid, but after comments from bus driver Erich Margeson regarding holding on to the vehicle to use for parts for the other older buses that will remain on the road, the board tabled the decision for further discussion.
After approving the bus purchase and tabling what to do with the junked bus, the board entered into executive session to discuss employee contracts.
The next meeting of the New Sweden School Board will be April 4 at 6:30 at the New Sweden School.
