UMFK nurses group to host Polar Bear 5K March 16

    FORT KENT – The University of Maine at Fort Kent Student Nurses Organization will host a Polar Bear 5K Run/Walk Race on Saturday, March 16. Race time is 10 a.m.
    Race-day registration will begin at 8 a.m. at the UMFK Cyr Hall parking lot. The fee for the race is $15 per person. The first 100 people to register will receive a race T-shirt. The race route is around the mills.
    Racers will compete in four different age groups: under age 18; 18-29; 30-44 and 45 and up. Prizes will be awarded to top finisher in each age division.
    The proceeds will benefit the UMFK Student Nurses Organization and a local charity.

UMPI baseball clinic

    PRESQUE ISLE – The University of Maine at Presque Isle baseball team will hold a three-day baseball clinic in Wieden Gymnasium March 15-17.
    Participants can choose to go to three different sessions and the cost will be as follows: $40 for one session, $70 for two sessions, and $90 for three sessions. Session one, on Friday, March 15 from 6-9 p.m., will be throwing and catching mechanics, fielding groundballs and fly balls. Session two, on Saturday, March 16 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., will be hitting and bunting instruction. Session three, on Sunday, March 17 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., will be more hitting and base running.

XC skiing event

    PRESQUE ISLE – The UM-Presque Isle Outing Club invites the public to join them for an afternoon of cross country skiing at Aroostook State Park on Friday, March 15 at 1 p.m.
    This is for beginner – intermediate cross country ski enthusiasts. Meet at Gentile Hall at 12:45 p.m. and the van departs for the park at 1 p.m. Cost for UMPI students is free with student ID; non-students, $3. The fee includes ski rental, transportation and instruction. For more information, call 768-9401.

A Matter of Balance

    The Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center will host the program “A Matter of Balance” for the Aroostook Area Agency on Aging.
    “A Matter of Balance” is designed to improve one’s knowledge of fall prevention, as well as tips for making your environment safe. A simple exercise routine and a nutrition piece will also be included. This eight-week course is free and meets Wednesday starting March 20 from noon-2 pm. Pre-registration is required.

Limestone to offer youth indoor program

    The Limestone Recreation Department will offer a co-ed youth indoor soccer program for grades pre-kindergarten through eight beginning this week in the Veteran’s Gymnasium.
    Session one will be for participants in grades pre-K through three and will take place from 5:30-6:15 p.m. Session two will be for participants in grades 4-8 and will take place from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
    This free program is open to Limestone and Caswell residents and will meet every Tuesday and Thursday until April 18. Participants will be able to have fun while working on their footwork, agility and indoor soccer skills.
