During February school vacation, eight Caribou High School students and parents took an afternoon to visit Mr. Fishman’s French classroom where they met and talked with four visitors from Caen, France. For nearly two hours, the participants engaged in conversations entirely in French, covering topics such as daily life, professional activities and cultural differences. The experience proved to be very beneficial to the CHS students, who had the opportunity to learn firsthand about the real day-to-day activities of the French while using the alternative language they had learned in the classroom. Discovering that their speaking and listening skills were actually more than sufficient in communicating with the visitors from Normandy was very encouraging and gratifying to the CHS students. For many years, Mr. Fishman has been connecting Caribou students with his contacts in France to create pen-pal, educational and personal relationships. Enjoying the visit are, from left, front row, Sylvain Lenormand, Colette Hubert, Fishman, Christine Lenormand, Olivia Sleeper and Daniel Hubert. Back row, Lise Collins, Matthew Theriault, Corlyn Cavender, Tiffany Bishop, Nicole McHattie, Clara Collins and Elise Kiehn. Also participating were Kayla and Colette Cormier.
