Houlton’s Miller skates with Bruins alumni

PERTH ANDOVER, N.B. — Nearly every young fan of sports dreams of being able to play with current or former professional athletes.

On Monday, March 18, that dream became a reality for Jordan Miller. An 8-year-old second-grader at Houlton Elementary School, Miller was among 17 youth hockey players selected to participate in the Perth-Andover Local Legends hockey event, which featured members of the Boston Bruins Alumni.
Miller, the son of Shelly and Robbie Miller of Houlton, skates with the Woodstock Minor Hockey Association. He was one of two skaters chosen from the WMHA to participate in the event, which featured youths from other minor hockey programs throughout eastern Canada.
And while simply skating with former members of the Boston Bruins would be thrilling enough for most young hockey fans, Miller’s involvement went even farther as he was selected to visit the Bruins’ locker room between periods and have his jersey signed by the former players, including his favorite — Ray Bourque.
“Jordan just loves Ray Bourque, so for Jordan to get a chance to meet his idol was pretty special,” Shelly Miller said. “He was thrilled and talked non-stop about it all the way home.”
The Boston Bruins Alumni is a non-profit organization made up of past players of the team. According to the group’s website, the alumni actively coordinate games to raise money for various charities and youth groups.
Other alumni who appeared at the event included Rick Middleton, Mike Krushelnyski, Ken Linesman, Bob Sweeney, Tim Sweeney, Al Iafrate, Bruce Shoebottom, Tom Songin, Keith Crowder and Cleon Daskalakis.
Proceeds from the event benefited the community of Perth Andover in its flood recovery effort.
