One day it was 2013 in Maine. There was a family. Their names were Braeden, Riley, Mike and Julie. They were working hard on their garden. Riley was planting peas, Braeden was planting tomatoes, Mike was planting potatoes and Julie was planting corn. Mike put a special chemical in his water to make his potatoes grow bigger. After they were done planting, they went inside to take a break and a nap.
When they went back outside, all of the seeds were taken out of their holes but the potatoes. But it seemed like the potatoes were pulled out of their holes and put back in. All of a sudden the potatoes turned around and grew legs, arms, a mouth, and eyes, and they started running toward them. The family ran inside.
When they were inside, they looked outside and the potatoes were running down the driveway. The family thought “uh, oh,” and they chased after the potatoes. When they were at the end of the driveway, they looked over at the next door neighbor’s house. The potatoes were attacking and eating the neighbor’s garden. The neighbors were trying to stop them, but the potatoes were too small. The family ran over to their neighbors.
The neighbors said, “Your potatoes have been attacking our garden.”
The family said, “We know.”
“Then how come you didn’t help us?”
“It’s because we don’t know how to get rid of the potatoes.”
“How did the potatoes turn into monsters?”
“We don’t know either. Mike, tell us what you did.”
“I put a chemical in the potatoes to make them grow bigger.”
“Ok, so how can we stop them? How about potato bugs?”
“Yea, let’s try that.”
They were wondering why the potatoes skipped some houses. They investigated. They saw that the houses didn’t have gardens and they thought that the potatoes only ate other vegetables. They thought the potatoes were heading toward the garden center. They went to the store and bought hundreds of potato bugs.
They set up a trap. They will have all the plants in the middle of the center. They will have 4 ropes and every person in the family will pull one. Each rope will open a door full of potato bugs. So they waited until the potatoes caught a whiff of the plants. As soon as they came in, they shot to the plants and they pulled the ropes and the potato bugs ate them up. The town gave them medals of honor for saving the town.
