I missed a week, so there is a lot of Chamber news that needs catching up. Can you believe it is April already? Time flies when you are having fun. And I sure am having fun. I saw a fly buzzing around outside of the office the other day. While it was not a robin, it was a small sign of spring.
Speaking of spring, have you been following Caribou’s climb up the bracket of Weather.com’s Toughest Weather City competition? As of this writing, Caribou has made it into the top four. I am somewhat torn about this. On the one hand, it puts Caribou in the news and that is always a good thing. Public Relations 101 states that being mentioned is always positive.
But at the same time, the distinction will give people this mind picture that we spend the entire year in parkas fighting the wind and snow. Okay, I just heard about 10 of you joke that we do. The fact that our next opponent was a city in Alaska will tickle my wife’s funny bone as she says we live there already.
So anyway, the news is welcome from a public relations standpoint, but I hope it leads people to check us out and see that despite our “tough” weather, this is a great place to live, work and locate a business.
By the time you read this, there will have been two grand openings that occurred on Tuesday, April 2. The first was at Frontier Pharmacy on Bennett Drive. This new pharmacy has transformed the old Movie Gallery building and is a welcomed addition to our community. The second occurred up at 559 Sweden Street where The Northern Lighthouse, Inc., held an open house and grand opening. This is another building that has been completely transformed and they did a beautiful job. This organization offers the following services to assist families and children that have varying disabilities: home and community based treatment, case management, residential treatment, outpatient therapy, and Section 28 services.
New stories on our Facebook page include Paradis Shop ‘n Save, Caribou Rehab and Nursing Center and Halfway Home Pet Rescue. And judging from the terrific response we are seeing on the site, people are really happy we take great care of our elderly, our cats and our grocery budgets.
Signups for the Caribou City-Wide Yard Sale have been steadily pouring in. Time is getting more critical now as the sign-up period only extends for another couple of weeks. The deadline is April 26. If you would like to advertise on the map that will be handed out to hundreds of bargain hunters, please give me a call.
Happy Anniversary wishes go out to: Daigle Oil Company which joined the Chamber in 1985, J.P. Martin & Sons Construction, 2005; Jepson Financial Advisors PA, 1991; Subway, 1995; The Aroostook Medical Center, 1996; and Terry’s Fixit, which joined in 2006. May our associations together last many more years and thank you so much.
