The University of Maine at Presque Isle baseball and softball teams are starting to get some games in this season.
The Owl baseball team took a 3-11 record into yesterday’s single game against Rowan College in New Jersey, while the softball team started 0-6 and were scheduled to play a doubleheader against Southern Virginia yesterday.

Coach Leo Saucier’s UMPI baseball squad was able to split a doubleheader against Centenary College in Flemington, N.J. Saturday.
The Owls took the nightcap, 10-6, after falling in the opener, 2-1.
In the victory, UMPI had to come from behind three different times. The final comeback was a five-run rally in the sixth inning which erased a 6-5 deficit.
The Cyclones drew first blood with two runs in the second inning, but  the Owls answered right back in the top of third as Justin Bergeron led off with a triple to the right center gap before Jordan Duffy took the first pitch he saw up the middle for an RBI single to bring the game to 2-1.
Centenary scored a run in the third, but the Owls responded in the top of the fourth with a two-out RBI single to right by Bergeron before Duffy again came through, this time with a two-run double to the right center gap, giving the Owls their first lead, 4-3.
Centenary answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to reclaim a 5-4 advantage and the two teams traded single runs in the fifth, with UMPI’s coming off a booming home run off the bat of Tanner Marshall. It was the first round-tripper in the collegiate career for the Owls’ left fielder.
In the decisive sixth, the Owls put the first seven batters on base (six singles and a hit by pitch), scoring four runs. The fifth and final run of the rally came across on a double play.
Jordan Perry earned the pitching win in relief, going 2-1/3 scoreless innings, giving up no hits, walking one while striking out three.
In the first-game defeat, Jake Fillebrown was the hard-luck losing pitcher.
On Monday, the Owls committed six errors in an 11-4 loss to Delaware Valley College in Doylestown, Pa.
Villoria went 4 for 4 and knocked in two runs to lead the Owls’ offense.
The UMPI women, coached by Peter Coffin, were beaten in doubleheaders by Wentworth Institute of Technology, Daniel Webster College and Randolph College.
The scores 8-2 and 12-4 against Wentworth Thursday and 4-1 and 10-0 against Daniel Webster Friday.
In the latest sweep, the Owls lost, 14-1 and 9-0, in games played against Randolph College in Lynchburg, Va.
Kellie Peers, a senior from Caswell, had two hits in the second game of Friday’s twinbill. Amanda Allen, a freshman from Limestone, did the pitching in the second game of the season-opening doubleheader against Wentworth and suffered the loss.
