Keagan Page won the event and the People’s Choice with his hilarious rendition of “Gut Busters,” an assortment of stories by Bob Marley and “remastered” by Keagan, followed by runner-up Carsyn Koch with “The Mission of Motherhood,” a speech which she wrote. Kala Farley spoke on “Babysitting Blues,” Courtney Cannon presented “Sis Hopkins’ Audition,” and Virginia Farley recited the poem “Thanatopsis” by William Cullen Bryant.
Members of the class provided some intermission fun when they did a short skit. Andrew White also provided intermission entertainment with a song he composed himself, along with a Tim Hawkins song. Andrew, president of the Class of 2014 spoke on behalf of the class and thanked Mrs. Londa Brown for her years of directing Junior Ex in a “farewell speech.”
At the end of the program, the class broke with all tradition and did a dance on stage to end the evening. The class had their dinner celebration at the Oriental Pearl following the program.

WAUGH HONORED — Washburn District High School’s Cross Country Coach Mike Waugh was selected as the Coach of the Year by the Maine Track & Cross Country Coaches Association.

Mr. Waugh, the Cross Country Coach at Washburn District High School, has been picked as the Coach of the Year by the Maine Track & Cross Country Coaches Association. Although the revived program is only in the third year, the team under his guidance has been incredibly successful. Maine Sunday Telegram sums up a part of their season quite well: “A Friday filled with typical math and science classes. An afternoon semifinal playoff soccer game. A four-and-a-half-hour bus trip from Washburn to Belfast. An overnight stay. A state championship cross country meet Saturday. Another four-and-a-half-hour bus trip home. Welcome to Carmen Bragg and Mackenzie Worcester’s version of ‘48 Hours.’ Bragg, Worcester and five teammates compete on Washburn’s soccer and cross country teams, and things are just fine.”
