BRIDGEWATER, Maine — Slippery road conditions were blamed for an early-morning crash on U.S. Route 1 that sent two Aroostook County men to the hospital. “On April 3 at approximately 6:35 a.m., Trooper Dennis Quint responded to Route 1 in Bridgewater for a report of a two-vehicle crash. Yvon Dube, 50, of Frenchville, was operating a 2008 GMC pickup, owned by the Maine Department of Transportation, southbound and lost control on the ice-covered roadway,” said Sgt. Brian Harris, Maine State Police.
Dube was unable to avoid oncoming traffic, striking another vehicle.
“Andrew McCluskey, 24, of Oakfield, was operating his 2013 Toyota pickup northbound on Route 1. As Dube’s vehicle skidded out of control towards McCluskey, McCluskey attempted to avoid striking Dube but could not. McCluskey’s vehicle struck the rear of Dube’s vehicle and Dube’s vehicle continued into the ditch, rolling over onto its top,” Harris said.
Dube and his passenger, 36-year-old Jeff Pelletier, also of Frenchville, were transported to The Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle via Crown Ambulance for non-life-threatening injuries.
McCluskey and his passenger, Dean McLaughlin, 47, of Dyer Brook, were not injured in the crash.
“All involved were wearing their seatbelts. Both vehicles were considered a total loss,” said the sergeant.
Harris said the area was limited to one lane of travel for approximately an hour while the crash was investigated and the scene was cleared.
Trooper Quint was assisted by Sgt. Harris, Trooper Nick Bailey, U.S. Border Patrol and the Bridgewater Fire Department.
