Houlton tennis teams split

The Houlton High School tennis squad opened its season on Monday, with the boys winning 5-0, while the girls were defeated, 5-0, at Van Buren.
In singles, Houlton’s Josh Sullivan, Ethan Nickerson and Lucas Grant all defeated their opponents — Sullivan over Forrest Bouchard, 8-3; Nickerson defeated Bradlee Roy, 8-4, and Grant downed Nicholas Violette, 8-4, as well.

In doubles, Houlton pairs Robby Woods/Steven Phillips and Christian Crane/Dakota Gramour won by forfeit.
On the girls’ side, Van Buren’s Parise Rossignol knocked off Caleigh Sullivan of Houlton, 8-0, while Courtney Parent topped Houlton’s Tessa Winship, 8-1 and Chantel Deveau bested Jasmine Hardy of Houlton, 8-0.
In doubles, the Van Buren pairs of Jacenta Deschaine/Felisha Bouchard and Isabel Parent/Alexis Ouellette topped Houlton’s Janelle Levesque/Emily Mooers and Piper Flewelling/June Choi, respectively.
The Houlton tennis teams will be in action today with Madawaska coming to town for two matches at 3/4:30 p.m.; Friday Houlton travels to Millinocket for a 4 p.m. match and Tuesday, April 30, Houlton will host Caribou at 3:30 p.m.
