From the Bunkers

The Houlton Golf Club is open for business! We are offering through May 12, a green fee special of $10 for unlimited play. Carts are also available for rental. Superintendent Bob Gray and his staff of Ray Barton, Brian Hammond, Joe McLaughlin, Paul Madigan and Brent Hammond are busy working hard cleaning fairways, mowing greens, and putting the course back in shape from the long hard winter. We are hoping the warm weather continues to help our early season opening. The driving range will be up and running by Monday, May 6.

May will be a busy month, with some important opening events occurring. The Ladies Day opening banquet will be held Tuesday, May 21. At 5 p.m., the social hour begins, followed by supper and the informational meeting about this year’s play. A sign-up sheet is now in the clubhouse for the banquet and for ladies league play. Stop by or call the clubhouse at 532-2662 to sign up for the two events. Also that week, on Thursday, May 23, will be the first men’s supper for 2013, brought to you by Leigh Dow, our new general manager.
The Men’s Twilight League will begin Monday, June 3. Only 30 teams can be entered again this year, so sign up now to reserve your team’s spot for the season. The sign-up sheet is now up in the clubhouse, so stop by or call the clubhouse. Deadline for the Men’s Twilight League is May 29.
The 14th annual Memorial Tournament will be played this year on Saturday, June 1. The scramble event will be an 18-hole event, and sponsored by the Ladies Association with all proceeds to go to course beautification and flowers. Get your foursome ready and sign up now. If you don’t have a team, but want to get involved, just call the clubhouse and we’ll place you on a team. All are welcome to play.
Finally, season memberships are being taken now at the clubhouse. Single, family and new member memberships are available at the best deals around. See you swinging soon.
