FORT FAIRFIELD — A local man has died as the result of a single-vehicle accident late Monday night.

“On April 30 around 10:45 p.m., the Fort Fairfield Police Department responded to a single motor vehicle crash on the North Caribou Road,” said Sgt. Shawn Newell, with the FFPD.
“Sherilyn Bennett, 49, of Fort Fairfield, was traveling northwest on the North Caribou Road, operating a 1998 Chrysler Concord, when she lost control of the vehicle, striking a tree. Bennett was transported to Cary Medical Center by Crown Ambulance where she was treated for minor injuries,” said Newell.
Bennett’s passenger, Larry A. Sawyer, 42, of Fort Fairfield was thrown from the car.
“Sawyer was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene,” Newell said.
The crash remains under investigation and no cause has been determined at this time, said Newell.
Newell, who is leading the investigation, was assisted at the scene by Crown Ambulance, the Fort Fairfield Fire Department, Maine State Police and the Maine Warden Service. Maine State Police Trooper Robert Flynn is reconstructing the crash.
