HOULTON — Brenda Commander was successfully re-elected as tribal chief of the Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians during an April 27 election.
Commander received 150 votes to easily win her fifth four-year term as chief. Others receiving votes were: Clair A. Sabattis, 45 votes; Delores Crofton-MacDonald, 44; and William Tomah, six.
Elected to the tribal council were John Flewelling, with 100 votes; Crystal Tucker, 91 votes; and Mary Joseph-Tomah, 66 votes. Flewelling and Tucker previously served on the council. All three were elected to four-year terms.
Others receiving votes for the tribal council were: Tina Beaver, 57; Jody Tomah Clark, 56; Susanna Wright, 52; Michael Kelley, 50; Pamela Griffith, 49; Merlon “Louie” Tomah, 46; Darcy Ann Gentle, 42; Valerie Lynn Polchies, 36; Sheila A. LeBlanc, 33; and Karen Lewis, six.
