Presque Isle Elks to host

foster care recognition night

PRESQUE ISLE — The Presque Isle Elks Lodge 1954, located at 508 Main St., will host a recognition night next Thursday for current and future foster and adoptive parents. The evening will feature a barbeque steak or chicken dinner prepared by the Presque Isle Elks.

“May is National Foster Care Month,” said Presque Isle Elks Exalted Ruler Vicki Delong, “and this event is intended as an expression of appreciation for families who through their good work as foster care providers are making a significant difference in the lives of Maine’s most vulnerable children and youth.”
The recognition night will feature appreciation awards to foster parents for their commitments and achievements in providing foster care and adoptive services.
In addition to the meal, the evening’s events will include supervised activities for children and training for foster parents.
“This event will be an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in providing foster care or adoptive services to receive information regarding the requirements to provide such services,” said Delong, “as well stories of the rewarding experiences of such providers.
“The Presque Isle Elks are honored to be hosting this event, which seeks to honor individuals who are providing such a valuable service, in addition to allowing individuals interested in providing that service to become more familiar with the requirements to do so,” she said.
The recognition night will be held Thursday, May 23 at 5:45 p.m. at the lodge.
Individuals wishing to attend should contact Ann Stephenson of the Maine Department of Health and Human Services at 493-4000 or by e-mail at ann.stephenson@maine.gov.
