The Island Falls VFW Post 7529 held it monthly public supper on Saturday, May 18 , serving from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. The menu, cooked and served by chef Gray Hawk, was roast turkey and pork, baked beans, mashed potatoes and carrots and peas and homemade yeast rolls. Desserts were varied and all this was enjoyed by the many who attended.

Elinor Jane Savage has returned home after spending several days in Rochchester, New York, with her daughter and husband, Rebecca and Tom Anselm.
I finally hung out my hummingbird feeder this past week and so far, have seen one hummingbird. Weather has been quite chilly so maybe they are late in arriving. Also have seen a fat, brown rabbit for several days having a great time eating whatever he can find in my back lawn. He hops from one area to another, meanwhile keeping a sharp lookout for any enemy while standing on his hind feet. I haven’t mowed my back lawn yet so there must be a lot of goodies to munch on out there. I am still putting a few sunflower seeds out for the chickadees and swallows and wrens, gold finch and blue jays. Think they appreciate it as they are busy gobbling it all.
I haven’t seen the pesky squirrels much lately so maybe they have decided to go find food someplace else. Also haven’t seen a deer in quite awhile—-was hoping to see the new fawns born this spring but maybe it is too early for them to be out and about.
