Two Delaware residents have been charged with trafficking in cocaine, following a traffic stop on U.S. Route 1 in Houlton.
Following a tip, agents from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency in Aroostook County arrested the two suspects for trafficking in cocaine and oxycodone on Friday.
“Paul Lovett, 32, of Felton, Del., and Melanie Major, 50, of Milford, Del., were arrested by MDEA agents on U.S. Route 1 in Houlton following a traffic stop. Aroostook County Crimestoppers received a tip on Friday that Lovett and Major had been in the Fort Fairfield area selling cocaine,” said Commander Darrell Crandall Jr., MDEA Division II.
According to Crandall, the report went on to say the two were traveling from Fort Fairfield to Delaware in a white Ford truck with additional cocaine and money from the sale of the drugs.
“MDEA agents, with assistance from sheriff’s deputies and state troopers, stopped the vehicle and searched it. Agents found cocaine and crack cocaine valued at over $4,000 hidden inside a DVD player in the back seat. Lovett and Major were taken into custody and transported to the MDEA office for questioning,” said Crandall.
A total of 44 oxycodone tablets were seized from Major and $1,067 cash was found on Lovett.
“Lovett is charged with Class B trafficking in cocaine, while Major is charged with Class B trafficking in cocaine and oxycodone. Bail is set for both suspects at $10,000 cash,” Crandall said.
If convicted, Lovett and Major face up to 10 years in prison.
