Volunteers honored at luncheon

    MAPLETON — The Aroostook Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and Aroostook Agency on Aging held their 38th annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon on Thursday, May 23, at the State Road Advent Christian Church in Mapleton. Volunteers were treated to a Breakfast for Champions. Entertainment for the morning was provided by Annie Charles.

LUELLA WHITE was recognized for 25 years of volunteering with RSVP.

    BETTY RINEHART and Rosemary Hede were recognized for 15 years of volunteering with RSVP.

    RECOGNIZED FOR 500 HOURS of volunteering with RSVP Patsy Delong, Carolyn Turner, Gloria Hebert, Gina Clark and Willard Green.

    RSVP Director Judy Anderson thanked the volunteers for their service, including 64,291 hours of volunteering in Aroostook  County in 2012. She stated that according to a recent report released by the Corporation for National and Community Service, senior volunteering is at a 10-year high, with one in three of all volunteers in the country is age 55 and older.
    Luella White of Presque Isle was recognized for 25 years of service and received a silver watch.
    Glenna Louridas of Ashland and Anne T. Mahan of Mars Hill were recognized for 20 years of volunteering, receiving engraved mantel clocks. Mahan was also recognized for reaching 4,000 lifetime hours of volunteering and received the United States Presidential Award.
    Rosemary Hede of Stockholm. Betty Rinehart of Caribou, and Marion Cassidy of Fort Fairfield were all recognized for 15 years of dedicated service, each receiving an embroidered RSVP tote bag.
    Recognized for 10 years of volunteering were: Nina Trask of Easton; Joseph Gaston, Willetta Gaston and Juanita Knowlton, all of Caribou; and Minnie Butler of Fort Fairfield.
    Volunteers being honored for the Governor’s Volunteer Honor Roll for 500+ hours of service included: Dorothy Anderson, Minnie Butler, Richard N. Cilley, Brenda Curry, Gloria Hebert, Robert Martin, Norma Milton, Betty Rinehart , Judy Robertson, Mary Ann Rowe, Louise Saucier, Lucy Shrout, Robyn Smith, Mary Jane Sperry, Winnie Theriault, Gail Young, Patsy Delong, Willard Green, Mayland Hartsgrove, Leonard Hutchins, Anne Price, Gertrude Szrejna, Carolyn Turner and  Nancy Violette. 
     RSVP is one of the longest-running volunteer programs in the country. Volunteers age 55 years and older volunteer at a wide variety of places, making a difference in the lives of children, veterans, the elderly, disaster survivors, and their communities.
