The Fort Street PTCO is always looking to bring new and exciting experiences to the kids at Fort Street Elementary School in Mars Hill. Mark Rothstein, at left, was an easy choice due to his exceptional motivating and inspiring tours around the country. He brings fun, fitness, inspirational messages and entertainment all wrapped up in one. We felt very honored to have a “Fitness Hall of Famer” spend all day with our kids teaching them about heart health and staying active all while having fun! Mark is pictured during the morning assembly. He then worked with the different classes during the day and gave a public performance that evening.

Rotary Club

The Mars Hill Rotary Club met on Tuesday, June 11, at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center. The speaker was registered Maine guide Sherwin Kelly of Mars Hill. Sherwin became a guide in 1973 but worked mainly in the firewood business until 1999, when an accident made him look for another profession.
He began trophy hunting in Maine and now has an average of 30 clients per year. He guides them from Sherman to Allagash, hunting moose, bear and deer. When on a hunt, he is prepared for anything and carries many supplies in his truck. Some hunts require staying patiently in a small area, while a moose hunt can take them over many miles looking for a “trophy.” He has a website, but most of his clients come from references and word-of-mouth.
Much to the disappointment of some of the Rotarians, Sherwin wouldn’t give out any of his hunting locations!
