The Island Falls Historical Society is extending an invitation to the general public to join them for a picnic to be held on the grounds of the Tingley House on Thursday, July 4 starting at noon.
Bring your own lunch, blankets, lounge chairs, or whatever.  Watermelon will be served as dessert to all who attend so come and enjoy a good time eating with friends and neighbors. Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Palmer have returned to their home here in Island Falls after spending the winter months in Florida and were welcomed back by many friends.

Dean and Jane Fitzgerald have moved from their home in Millinocket to their cottage on Pleasant Pond,  where they will stay during the summer months.
The many zinnias I planted in May are finally beginning to develop buds and have even begun to grow a bit taller. The steady rains we had in May really stunted their growth as they are supposed to be at least 12 to 18 inches high and right now are only about four. My pansies are really taking off, too, and are blooming well and often. They will certainly keep me busy, I’m sure, removing the old growth during the summer.
While watching all my little gold finch and redpolls this morning, I spotted a little fat woodchuck busily chomping away on whatever it is they find to eat there. After a couple of minutes something scared him and he disappeared real fast — I think it was under my front steps, which is the place the pesky red squirrels use in the winter time to hideout.
I made a trip to Patten the other day and on my return home stopped in to visit with Gertie Webb, former resident of Island Falls, and also with Margaret Duffy, former resident of Benedicta. We had a good chat. I am still hoping to see deer in my back yard and have  heard from other people that there are still lots of deer around but most of them  are seen quite a long way from this area. Still swimming at Vacationland Estates and have lots of company now—-ladies from Sherman and Patten showing up quite often—-and its great to have company.
