Soccer tournament to be held Friday in PI
The 21st annual PIHS Invitational Soccer Tournament will be held at the Johnson Athletic Complex Friday, Aug. 9.
The admission fee is $2 for students and $4 for adults. Schools participating are Caribou, Madawaska, Fort Fairfield, Fort Kent, Van Buren, Ashland and host Presque Isle. Games, which are 25 minutes in length, begin at 9 a.m., with the girls’ championship slated at 4:35 p.m. and the boys’ championship at 5:15 p.m.
Fall sports practice times slated for SAD 1
The first practices for Presque Isle Middle School fall sports teams are scheduled for next week.
Cross country will be held Monday, Aug. 12 at 3 p.m. The Blue boys’ soccer team meets Monday, Aug. 12 at 3 p.m. and the Blue girls’ team at 5 p.m. that same afternoon.
The White girls’ soccer team practices at 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 12 and the White boys’ team at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13.
At the varsity level, cross country begins Monday, Aug. 12 at 5 p.m., golf Aug. 19 at 3:15 p.m. and fall cheering Aug. 19 at 6 p.m.

Pink Aroostook golf scramble at CCC
The Pink Aroostook Scramble benefit golf tournament is slated for Saturday, Aug. 10 at Caribou Country Club, beginning with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
The registration fee is $100 per four-person team and mixed teams are welcome. The minimum team handicap is 40. Registration deadline is Thursday, Aug. 8. Call CCC at 493-3933 to register.
The rain date for the tourney is Sunday, Aug. 11.
All proceeds will benefit Pink Aroostook and help breast cancer survivors and advocacy throughout Aroostook County.
Willards wins ‘E’ states
A team that competes out of Caribou beat out eight other teams to win the Northern Maine ASA Class E State Men’s Slo-Pitch Softball Tournament, held at the Teague Park diamond July 20 and 21.
T.W. Willard came out of the loser’s bracket to defeat Shananigans of the Ellsworth league twice, 7-0 and 12-7, and win the championship.
Buck Construction of Presque Isle placed third in the tourney.
