Keeping it local?
To the editor:
I was watching the news one evening this week. A very interesting program was encouraging our younger generation to stay and work in this area and may God bless them if they do. My roots are here in Aroostook and I have never felt the urge to leave, except for a few months in Florida. There has always been more to do here than I ever could get done.
But the same evening, same news program our Deputy City Manager boldly states a furlough day for municipal employees. This must confuse our younger generation. Was he a local person given a needless position to stay in The County? Is our city manager a locally educated person who stayed in the area, who spent all his life living and learning about Presque Isle, Maine?
We have educated your intelligent people, shouldn’t we be keeping them local by using them in our local area jobs instead of drawing complete strangers to help us manage our city business.
