Race during balloon fest benefits ATL camp

    A five-kilometer road race is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 25 as part of the Crown of Maine Balloon Fest.
    Registration begins at 8 a.m. at the Forum in Presque Isle. The race begins at 10 a.m. at the main entrance of the Forum.

    The fee to register is $10, with shirts given to the first 20 registrants. Medals will be awarded to the overall female and male winners as well as winner in three divisions (under 12 years old, 12-18 and over 18).

    The race is being put on by the Aroostook Teen Leadership Camp, a leadership development and drug prevention program of Aroostook Mental Health Services, Inc., which has been serving teenagers of Aroostook County since 1987.

Night race at CHS planned Aug. 30

    The annual Alumni/ Community Cross Country race will be held Friday, Aug. 30 at 7:45 p.m. on the Caribou High School trails.
    Registration for the event begins at 6:30 p.m. The race, which will be held under the lights, is 2.75 miles in length and is for individuals of all ages.
    Categories include 50 years of age and older, eighth grade and younger, high school-age and elite. Individuals and teams can compete. Teams can have up to five people and need at least three to score points. They can be all-male, all-female or mixed.
    There is no entry fee. Runners start in various groups according to their age category and will go out in waves 60 seconds apart. Scoring will be tabulated by placement instead of time, and winners will receive alumni race T-shirts.

Cornerstone golf tourney

    The seventh annual Cornerstone Christian Academy Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, Sept. 14 at Presque Isle Country Club.
    Registration is at 7:30 a.m. and the shotgun start is at 8:30 a.m. The event is a three-person best-ball scramble and the entry fee is $120 for a team. Individuals may sign up for $40 and placed on a team.
    Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three teams for both gross and net. Longest drive and closest to pin winners will earn certificates to the PICC pro shop. Hole-in-one prizes include $15,000 cash, a set of golf clubs and a flat screen television. There is also a putting contest with a chance to win $5,000 cash.

Viking Run slated at Caribou Sept. 2

    The annual Viking Run will be held on Labor Day, Sept. 2, beginning at 9 a.m. at Caribou High School. Registration gets under way at 8 a.m. at the CHS track.
    Trophies will be awarded to the top three boys and girls to finish each race. Categories are Pre-K/kindergarten quarter mile, grades 1-2 half mile, grades 3-4 half mile, grades 5-6 mile and grades 7-8 mile.
    Ribbons will be awarded to all participants and the first 150 to register will receive a T-shirt. For more information, contact Roy Alden at ralden@rsu39.org.

Limestone rec offers variety of swim lessons

    The fall swimming lessons session will be held beginning Sept. 9 at the Limestone Community School pool and registrations will be accepted through Sept. 3. The cost per class is $30 for residents and $50 for non-residents.
    Classes include parent-child aquatics for those 6 months to 3 years of age, pre-school aquatics for ages 4-5, learn to swim levels I-IV for ages 6 and older and adult beginner.
