Tea and Quilt Show held at museum
WASHBURN — A highly successful Tea and Quilt Show was held on Aug. 4 at the Salmon Brook Historical Museum in Washburn. Surrounded by the riot of color of 82 quilts, the tea was served in the Aroostook County Agricultural Museum or the “Barn Museum” as it is locally called. Tea was served by Mavis Churchill and Ardis Libby. Quilts adorned the entire first floor of the barn, creating a bright and cozy atmosphere for attendees.
The quilts were loaned by local women and included both antique, modern and works by first-time quilters. The featured quilt, a Victorian hand-embroidered fan quilt, was loaned by the Lila Flewelling family. The farm home also included displays of quilts in every possible corner.
Charter members of Salmon Brook Historical Society of Washburn in attendance were Barbara Porter, Mavis Churchill and Myrtle “Skip” Jardine.
Special thanks to members of Stitchin’ ‘n a Givin’ and other members of the community who loaned quilts, young women who helped to serve and those who donated food. All proceeds of this event will help to keep the museum open to the public.
