PRESQUE ISLE — Main Street welcomed a new establishment last month. The Maine Army National Guard opened a new recruiting center in the H&R Block building at 769 Main St., giving them a permanent recruiting presence in Aroostook County.
When asked why they believed Aroostook County was a good fit for a recruiting center, Staff Sergeant George A. Churchill replied, “I grew up in Aroostook County and I know that people here have a strong work ethic. The Maine Army National Guard wants to ensure that all residents have an opportunity to be part of this great organization.”

National Guard officials are also hoping that the new location will help increase enlistment in the state.
“Aroostook County may have a small population, but we see a high per capita enlistment rate coming from this area,” SSG. Churchill said. The new location provides high visibility and a chance to attract new recruits on a permanent basis.
The grand opening was held on August 17, and included a ribbon-cutting ceremony, a climbing wall, and displayed military equipment.
