DRIVER ESCAPES SERIOUS INJURY — Austin Hanson, 16, of Westfield, sustained minor injuries Aug. 30, when the dump truck he was driving on the Parsons Road in Mapleton sustained mechanical problems, causing the vehicle to go off the road and roll over. The Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office responded to investigate the accident.
“On Friday afternoon, Aug. 30, a dump truck was being operated by 16-year-old Austin Hanson, of Westfield, on the Parsons Road in Mapleton when it experienced steering problems. Hanson applied the brakes on the 1977 Ford and the vehicle went out of control,” said Chief Deputy Darrell Crandall, of the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office.
Crandall said the truck left the road, went over an embankment and rolled over several times.
“Hanson, who had been wearing his seatbelt, was able to get out of the vehicle on his own and call for help. He was taken to The Aroostook Medical Center by private vehicle with what turned out to be only minor injuries,” Crandall said.
The vehicle, which is owned by Hanson’s grandfather, Dan Hanson of Presque Isle, sustained serious damage and was towed from the scene of the crash.
Deputies Rob Thibeault and Ryan Doughty responded to the Parsons Road to investigate the accident.
