McElwain has easy win in 8K event
CARIBOU – A small field of 39 runners toed the line for the annual Caribou Labor Day 8K Road Race, which took place Sept. 2.
Caribou’s Spencer McElwain and Mapleton’s Kimberley Wright captured individual titles in the race. McElwain posted a winning time of 25 minutes and 52 seconds, while Wright was the women’s champion in 35:45 and took 13th place overall.
There were six walkers participating. Four of them, Jenny Theriault, Shane Theriault, Lindsey Mazerolle and Joey Cowett, crossed the line in identical times of 47:49.
Following McElwain and rounding out the race’s top-fivewere Evan Graves (27:58), Jeff Ashby (29:00), Thomas Beckum (29:41) and Chris Rines (30:26).
In the female division, Marie Beckum (36:06) and Angela Ewings (36:13) followed Wright across the finish line.
Age division winners were Evan Desmond, 14 and under male; Levesque, 15-18 male; Marie Beckum, 19-29 female; Rines, 19-29 male; Gorneault, 30-39 female; Graves, 30-39 male; Ewings, 40-49 female; Ashby, 40-49 male; Brent Jepson, 60-69 male; and Art Thompson, 70 and over male.

CARIBOU – Ninety six youth gathered at the Caribou High School track Sept. 2 for the annual Viking Run.
The event featured a quarter-mile race for pre-K and kindergarten-age girls and boys, a half-mile race for first- and second-graders and third- and fourth-graders and a mile race for the older divisions. The winners are as follows:
Pre-K and K girls: first, Jayden Holmes, 2:15; second, Brooke Quick, 2:23; and third, Molly Williams, 2:34.
Pre-K and K boys: first, Landen Belanger, 1:55; second, Graedon King-Rosado, 2:00; and third, Eli Mosher, 2:07.
Grades 1-2 girls: first, Teanne Ewings, 3:47; second, Claire Ouellette, 4:00; and third, Madelyn Deprey, 4:10; grades 1-2 boys: first, Isaac Staples, 3:37; second, Lars Spooner, 3:45; and third, Andrew Ring, 3:47.
Grades 3-4 girls: first, Annalise Jandreau, 3:28; second, Mia Theriault, 3:36; and third, Saffayia Durepo, 3:47; grades 3-4 boys: first, Ari Plante, 3:08; second, Carter Pelletier, 3:13; and third, Colin Poitras, 3:23.
Grades 5-6 girls: first, Kaylyn Krul, 7:17; second, Teagan Ewings, 7:22; and third, Delaney Alward, 8:02; grades 5-6 boys: first, John O’Meara, 6:25; second, Will Austin, 6:42; and third, Cullin Caverhill, 6:44.
