UMPI’s Distinguished Lecturer Series presents Joyce Tenneson
PRESQUE ISLE — The University of Maine at Presque Isle presents its first Distinguished Lecturer for 2013-14.
Joyce Tenneson will deliver her talk, “An Intimate Look at the Intimate Portrait,” presented by Canon USA’s Explorer of Light program, at 7 p.m. in the Campus Center on Wednesday, Sept. 11. Tenneson is a world renowned photographer and author and is internationally lauded as one of the leading photographers of her generation. Tenneson’s images have been displayed in more than 150 exhibitions worldwide and her portraits have appeared frequently on the covers of Time, Life, Newsweek, and The New York Times Magazine.
A special reception and book-signing will take place in the Reed Fine Art Gallery from 5-7 p.m. prior to her talk, where her work will be on display through Oct. 12. Refreshments will be served. This event is free and open to the public

SAGE kicks off fall class offerings at UMPI
PRESQUE ISLE — A University of Maine at Presque Isle program that serves local residents over 50 and believes in “learning for life” will host its fall kick-off event at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 20, in the Campus Center.
Membership in Seniors Achieving Greater Education (SAGE) is $15 per semester or $30 for the year. There are additional fees for field trips and some hands-on courses. Refreshments will be served at 9:30 a.m., followed by brief presentations by the learning facilitators. Registration for classes will follow the presentations.
