ASHLAND — Two local men are facing multiple charges after police used a warrant to search an Ashland residence, following a tip that the pair may have been involved in a recent burglary.
“I received information regarding a burglary in the area and that someone local was involved. Sgt. Jarod Carney obtained a search warrant in connection with two individuals at 28 Exchange Street in Ashland,” said Chief Cyr Martin, of the Ashland Police Department.
Martin said Carney also had an arrest warrant for the men, identified as 25-year-old Trevor Tompkins and 35-year-old Chris Cyr. Shortly after 7:15 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 2, the warrants were executed at an apartment building on Exchange Street.
Carney requested K-9 assistance from the Presque Isle Police Department, U.S. Border Patrol and Maine State Police.
“Jarod sought K-9 assistance with regard to the search warrant on two apartments at Exchange Street in Ashland. Among those responding were two dogs and officers from Border Patrol, Officer Kevin Reed and Dozer (who’s trained in drug detection) from the PIPD, and Trooper Chuck Michaud of the MSP,” said Martin. “We also had all Ashland officers respond, as well as members of the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.”
Evidence was found at the apartments linking the men to recent burglaries in the area. Reed put Dozer to work, with the dog subsequently aiding in the discovery of drugs and paraphernalia in at least one of the apartments.
“We found multiple items from multiple burglaries, as well as drug paraphernalia and drugs. Tompkins and Cyr were arrested and each were charged with burglary, a Class D crime; criminal mischief, a Class D crime; and theft, a Class D crime. Additional charges are pending,” said Martin.
Tompkins and Cyr are scheduled to appear in Aroostook County Superior Court on Nov. 19. Additional charges are pending. The case remains under investigation.
