LIMESTONE — U.S. Senator Susan Collins’ office announced on Thursday that the Defense Finance and Accounting Services branch in Limestone will begin

assuming some of the Air Force workload from DFAS Europe beginning in October of this year.
According to DFAS spokesman Tom LaRock, the new workload was once done in Limestone and had been transferred to Europe. After a review of the DFAS Europe workload, readjustments were made to return the work to Limestone.
LaRock advises that, at this time, the additional work does not mean new jobs for the Limestone office or a change in the type of work being done.
“It’s not a new mission,” LaRock said. “DFAS believes it can be handled with the current force.”
Collins considers the additional workload a positive sign for the Limestone employer.
“This transfer of work is positive news and will help maintain a steady workload for the men and women of DFAS Limestone,” Collins, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said. “The Department of Defense should continue to examine the feasibility and cost effectiveness of consolidating operations at facilities overseas and bringing that work to existing facilities here in the United States.”
