“Washburn Fire and Rescue responded to the report of a shed fire at 1348 Main St. in Washburn around 10:10 a.m. on Oct. 5. Upon arrival we found a detached two-bay garage , in addition to a shed, fully involved,” said Washburn Fire Chief Troy Heald.
Heald said the fire rapidly spread to the house as well. Washburn received mutual aid from the Caribou and Mapleton fire departments, which responded with trucks and crews.
“The home is a total loss but the property was insured. The Red Cross has offered assistance to the residents who were displaced. Three individuals were living in the home at the time of the fire,” said Heald.
Also assisting at the scene were the Washburn Police Department and Crown Ambulance. There were no injuries as a result of the blaze.
“Investigation is ongoing but the cause of the fire is undetermined at this point. Units from the Maine Forest Service and Maine Fire Marshall’s Office have been to the site; no citations are pending at this time,” said Heald.
Anyone wishing to offer assistance is encouraged to contact the American Red Cross office in Caribou. The number to call is 493-4620.
