Koch takes 6th at Belfast
BELFAST — The largest cross country meet in the state, the Maine XC Festival of Champions, was held Saturday, with local squads Presque Isle and Washburn making the trip down to compete.
The top effort of the day turned in among local runners belonged to Washburn senior Carsyn Koch in the girls’ race. Amongst 623 females to finish the five-kilometer course, Koch placed sixth overall in 19 minutes and 15.15 seconds.
The winning time belonged to Bonny Eagle sophomore Kialeigh Marston, who finished in 18:42.94.
Washburn placed ninth out of 51 teams by scoring 402 points. Beaver senior Carmen Bragg was 92nd in 21:28.58 and junior Mackenzie Worcester 98th in 21:33.52. Freshman Tori Koch (21:58.27) and sophomore Emilia Churchill (21:58.38) were 124th and 125th, respectively.
Mount Desert Island won the meet with 95 points, followed by Falmouth (181) and Harwood Union of Vermont (232). The girls’ meet featured 51 teams from throughout the state, with a few coming from other regions of New England as well.
Presque Isle sophomore Emily Colligan came in among the top 100, placing 94th in 2:29.71. The Wildcats were 42nd with a score of 992. Next for PI was sophomore Mandy Graham, whose time of 21:46.76 put her in 111th place.
In the boys’ race, Presque Isle senior Saul Nunez crossed the finish line in 18:08.36, good for 121st place.
Nunez’s teammate and classmate, Trevor Levesque, was 134th in 18:14.16. Dustin Drabek, another Wildcat senior, claimed the 195th position with a time of 18:41.52. Presque Isle had the best score among County squads with 866 points, a total placing the Wildcats 29th out of 57 teams.
The Washburn boys were 53rd with 1,520 points. Junior Alex Pelletier led the way by finishing in 19:10.6 and was 265th overall. Next for the Beavers was junior Cameron Preston, who was 365th out of 791 finishers at 19:49.12.
