HALEY AND ALEXIS MORO of Mapleton are pictured with an 84-pound Boston marrow squash grown by Beth Pickens of Castle Hill. The girls were two of the many participants at the Fall Family Fun Event at the Lighthouse in Presque Isle. Organizers held a contest for kids and adults to guess the weight of the squash. According to Pickens, the squash was “the center of attention.” The Lighthouse is located on Carmichael Street. Volunteers teach the children of the community good morals and strong character. The facility also often holds community events for families. The Lighthouse is a faith-based, non-profit organization.

LARRY AND DEBBIE SAWYER of Castle Hill recently returned from their first trip to Florida. They made the trip with their oldest daughter, Jennifer Buzza, and her husband, Aaron, and daughter, Madelyn. The group stayed on Disney property, toured Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa, spent some time at Clearwater Beach and concluded the weeklong trip with a day at Magic Kingdom to meet Mickey! This was the Sawyer’s first vacation out of state since their two adult daughters were very young.
