‘Wednesday Evening Fiddlers’

to perform in Star City

PRESQUE ISLE — The Presque Isle Elks will host a musical fundraiser Saturday night featuring a well-known fiddle group and local kids as a way to raise money for children fighting cancer.

The event, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 16 at 6 p.m. at the Presque Isle Elks Lodge, will include the “Wednesday Evening Fiddlers” of Perth-Andover, New Brunswick, under the direction of Garold Hanscom. The “Fiddlers” will be joined by Mayce Kinney of Presque Isle, Chloe Wheeler of Blaine, Madison Shaw of Mapleton, and other talented young musicians for a highly enjoyable evening of music and fun.
Tickets are $5 per person. All proceeds will benefit the Maine Children’s Cancer Program.
“The diagnosis of a child with cancer sends shockwaves through any family,” said Elks Exalted Ruler Vickie Delong. “The Maine Children’s Cancer Program is the pediatric cancer program of the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital. It provides the state’s most comprehensive diagnostic and treatment resources for the entire family. The Maine Children’s Cancer Program is a favored charity of all Maine Elks, including the Presque Isle Lodge.
“The ‘Wednesday Evening Fiddlers’ have been entertaining audiences throughout the area for 26 years, while learning the mastery of the fiddle. Members of this group range in age from 6 to 90, but their respective ages are not necessarily indicative of their level of talent or skill with the fiddle,” she said. “Each member of the group makes their own significant contribution in the form of energy and spirit, if not in equivalent skill or mastery of the instrument.”
For years, the “Fiddlers” have been the most popular musical attraction at the Northern Maine Fair, where they have drawn over-capacity audiences and long ovations at the Fair’s music hall.
Concessions, including pizza, hot dogs, popcorn, cotton candy, and other popular treats and novelties, will be sold at the event. Proceeds will also benefit the Maine Children’s Cancer Program.
“Limited seating space is available,” said Delong. “To ensure you and your family do not miss out on this musical event of the year, get your tickets soon. Tickets are available at the Lodge or Bradley’s Citgo in Presque Isle.”
