9-year-old donates to charity

On Sept. 14, Hannah Holmes celebrated her ninth birthday. She asked all her friends instead of gifts for her, to bring a donation to help fight cancer. Holmes was so excited to raise $165.

She gave the money to the Eastern Maine Medical Center Auxiliary to go toward their five-year, $350,000 pledge to benefit the EMMC Raish Peavey Haskell Children’s Cancer and Treatment Center.
Holmes has a heart to give to others. She always gives when she sees a donation can help fight cancer. Two years ago, she cut her hair for Locks for Love, and is growing her hair again to donate.
The auxiliary was established in 1893. Since its inception the Auxiliary has contributed over $3.3 million to the hospital and its programs, ‘doing good work’ and directly supporting the community.
