Lyons earns prestigious award

    Richard Lyons, a former teacher and administrator in Washburn and Presque Isle and now the superintendent of schools for RSU 22 (Hampden, Newburgh, Winterport and Frankfort) and Veazie Community School District, has received the distinguished leadership award from the New England Association of School Superintendents.

    Lyons was presented the Dr. Alice Duckworth Lifetime Award, which honors an outstanding New England educational leader and strong advocate for public education who exemplifies outstanding qualities of service to the community, students, the profession and the NEASS.
    Lyons taught in Washburn and was a teaching principal and supervising principal in Presque Isle before accepting a superintendent’s position in Dover-Foxcroft and later for RSU 22, where he has served since 1992.
