A new season of high school basketball starts Friday night, with a local matchup between the Hodgdon Hawks and Katahdin Cougars in Stacyville at 6:30 p.m.
The Hawks’ home opener will be Tuesday, Dec. 10 when they host Washburn at 7 p.m.
The Hodgdon Lady Hawks will launch their season on Friday on the road to Washburn for a 7 p.m. game. Their home opener will be Monday, Dec. 9 as they host Katahdin at 7 p.m.
The Lady Cougars will play at home on Thursday, Dec. 12 as they host Penobscot Valley at 6:30 p.m.
The Southern Aroostook varsity teams also open the season on the road Friday in Mars Hill with the varsity girls playing at 5:30 p.m., followed by the varsity boys contest at 7 p.m.
The Warriors will open at home on Wednesday, Dec. 11 against Ashland at 7 p.m., while the girls’ first home game will be Friday, Dec. 13 against Fort Fairfield at 7 p.m.
The East Grand varsity girls and boys host Easton on Friday for a double home game, with the girls playing at 4:30 p.m. and the boys following at 6 p.m.
The Houlton Lady Shires open the second night of the season, Saturday, hosting Washington Academy at 7 p.m. at Houlton Alumni Gymnasium. Hopefully to make it a festive night, the band and cheerleaders will be on the sidelines.
The Shiretowners will open the season on the road Saturday in Calais. Their home opener will be Wednesday, Dec. 11 as they host Presque Isle at 7 p.m.
The Greater Houlton Christian Academy will begin its season on Monday, Dec. 9 with games in Ashland. The girls will start the evening out at 5:30 p.m., followed by the boys’ contest at 7 p.m.
Teams have been preparing for the regular season through practices and preseason tournaments. Come out and support the local squads this season, as they set their sights on the Cross Center in Bangor.
