Washburn students to compete in Hoop Shoot

    David J. Lyon Washburn District Elementary School will send six representatives to the County Elks’ Hoop Shoot to be held on Saturday, Jan. 4, at the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Weiden gymnasium.

    A total of 80 students — 44 girls and 36 boys — participated in the local Hoop Shoot conducted as an optional activity during their physical education classes. The Hoop Shoot is part of a national foul shooting competition held each year. Earning a trip to Presque Isle for the County shoot-off are: Kassidy Blackstone and Brayden Castonquay in the 8- to 9-year-old division; Skylar Mette and Aiden Churchill in the 10- and 11-year-old category; and Alexis Carney and Quintin Thompson in the 12- and13-year-old division.
    Trophies were awarded to these winners by the Presque Isle Elk Lodge.

    The Washburn Trail Runners Snowmobile kitchen opens for weekend breakfasts the weekend of Jan. 4 and 5. It will be open every weekend until the end of March. Hours are Saturdays 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sundays 6 a.m. to noon. You can find a menu and prices on the Washburn Trail Runners Snowmobile Facebook page.
