ORIENT — Snow covered roads were a contributing cause to a Monday afternoon accident on U.S. Route 1 in Orient.
According to Maine State Police Sgt. Josh Haines, Joshua Fogg, 34, of Forest City, was heading south on U.S. Route 1 when he lost control of the 1999 Kenworth tractor trailer rig carrying a load of logs at about 1:30 p.m.

The truck rolled onto its side, spilling its contents and closing a portion of the road.

FS-clr-Orient-Crash-dcx-pt-5MONDAY ACCIDENT — This tractor-trailer rolled onto its side Monday afternoon on U.S. Route 1 in Orient. The driver of the truck, Josh Fogg, 34, of Forest City, was not injured. The trucking company, HSP Logging of Danforth, was charged with inadequate tires.

“The cause of the crash was primarily related to the driver operating too fast for the slippery road conditions,” Haines said. “Poor tire condition on the trailer also contributed to the crash.”
The company was charged with having five inadequate tires on the trailer. The operator sustained minor injuries, but refused treatment at the scene.
Trooper Jared Sylvia investigated the crash and was assisted at the scene by Sgt. Haines and the Danforth Fire Department. The truck sustained disabling damage and both truck and trailer were towed to Shay Trucking in Danforth.
HSP Logging in Danforth owns the truck.
The storm caused multiple other crashes Monday throughout Aroostook County.
The Maine State Police encouraged the motoring public to drive with extreme caution during the winter months when roads are slippery.
