LITTLETON, Maine — A Littleton man was charged with leaving the scene of an accident after reportedly striking an empty vehicle at the Littleton Pit Stop last Wednesday.
According to Deputy Chief Darrel Crandall of the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Department, Kaitlynn Wellington of New Limerick left her 2007 Nissan Sentra in the parking lot at the Littleton Pit Stop on U.S. Route 1 to commute north with another person.
Around 11:30 a.m., Robert Henderson, 45, of Littleton arrived at the Pit Stop and got out of his vehicle. His vehicle was not fully in park and traveled about 70 yards, striking Wellington’s parked vehicle, causing nearly $5,000 in damage to her car, Crandall said.
Henderson’s vehicle sustained only minor damage.
“Witnesses reported that Henderson looked over the damage, got back into his vehicle and left the area without making contact with anyone or reporting the incident to the police,” Crandall said. “Sheriff’s deputies were called and tracked Henderson down. He was interviewed and then charged with leaving the scene of an accident, a Class E crime.”
