Free ice skating offered at the Forum

    The Fort Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department will provide free skating at the Forum in Presque Isle for all Fort Fairfield residents through Feb. 23, which is the end of school vacation. In order to gain access to the Forum for free skating, each Fort Fairfield resident must present at the Forum ticket window a picture identification that includes a proof of residency. Skaters are responsible for providing their own skates (skates are available to borrow from the parks and recreation department for the season). For more information, call 472-3882.

Co-ed volleyball

    Co-ed volleyball for individuals high school age and over is held at the Fort Fairfield Community Center Gymnasium every Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. Play is informal, with teams being selected each night from all those in attendance. There is no charge to participate and all are welcome to attend.

Adult basketball league

    The parks and recreation department is currently running an adult full court basketball league with games being played on Monday and Thursday evenings at the community center gymnasium.
Registration is now open for the spring adult basketball league scheduled to begin play on Feb. 10. The deadline to register a team for the spring league is Feb. 6 and can be done by calling 472-3882. The cost is $100 per team to participate and each team is guaranteed to play a minimum of 12 games during the season.

Hot Shot basketball

    The parks and recreation department will be hosting the Hot Shot Basketball program again this year.  The local qualifying competition will be held at the community center on Feb. 10 and 12 from 4:30-6 p.m.  Participants can shoot on one or both days of qualifying with only their best score from the two days counting towards qualification.
The program is for boys and girls ages 9-18 as of March 31, 2014. The various age groups include: 9-10, 11-12, 13-15, and 16-18 with boys competing separate from girls. Hot Shot basketball is a skills competition that involves shooting from five spots on a basketball court and tests speed, shooting, dribbling and rebounding ability.
The top three qualifiers in each age group at the local competition will be eligible to participate in the regionals in Caribou on Feb. 19 at 10 a.m. There is no charge to participate.

K of C free throw competition scheduled

    The Fort Fairfield Knights of Columbus is once again sponsoring the annual K of C Free Throw Competition, which will be held at the community center gymnasium on Wednesday,
Feb. 12 from 3-4:30 p.m.
This program is free for boys and girls ages 9-14 as of Jan. 1, 2014, with boys competing separate from girls in the six different age groups. Each winner at the local level will have the opportunity to participate in the district championship, also to be held in Fort Fairfield on Saturday, Feb. 22. There is no charge to participate.
