Girls battle for points on the hardwood

    The Greater Houlton Christian Academy girls have put themselves into the playoff picture, with a seven-member squad — one senior, one sophomore, three freshmen and two eighth-graders. However, on Saturday in Van Buren, the young squad suffered a 56-40 defeat.
    Van Buren senior Parise Rossignol drained 36 points and had eight rebounds to propel her Crusader team. Felisha Bouchard scored 10 points and had 10 blocks in the game.

    Van Buren led 14-8 to start the game and at intermission, they held a 34-25 advantage. After three, the Crusaders were ahead comfortably, 49-29.

    Makayla Watson dropped in 12 points to pace GHCA, while Colby Walker netted 10 more.
    The visiting Lady Eagles raced by East Grand last Wednesday, 59-33.
    Watson turned in a strong performance with 17 points, while Walker tossed in 14 and Rylee Warman added 13.
    For East Grand, Sarah Stoddard finished with 14 points, while Haleigh Shay had 10 more.
    At the quarter breaks, GHCA led 9-3; 23-15; and 44-22.
    To start their week, the Lady Eagles traveled to Easton and pulled out a 51-45 win, as Watson, Walker and Warman all posted double figures. Watson had 17; Walker, 14 and Warman, 10.
    GHCA led at all quarter breaks: 18-14; 26-23; and 40-31.
    Hannah Ferris knocked down 15 points to pace Easton, while Kalie Ward added 13 points and grabbed 17 rebounds.
    The East Grand girls lost to visiting Woodland last week, 48-39.
    Chelsea Winiarski scored nine points, while Stoddard added eight more.
    Woodland was led by Devon Perkins’ 18 points and Daynah Brown’s 10.
    East Grand started the game in the lead, 11-8, but fell behind by halftime, 22-17. After three, Woodland held a 37-26 advantage.
    The Southern Aroostook Lady Warriors overpowered Katahdin on Saturday in Dyer Brook, 44-28.
    SACS senior Jess Tucker scored a game-high 16 points and Chloe Raymond chipped in with 10.
    SACS led 14-8 to open the game and held a 24-14 halftime advantage. In the third, the Lady Warriors were ahead 31-24, but held Katahdin to four points in the final eight minutes to seal the win.
    For Katahdin, Morgan Livezey led the way with 14 points.
    Last Tuesday, the Southern Aroostook girls were downed 66-51 by visiting Washburn, when Carmen Bragg hit three 3-pointers in the crucial third quarter to break the game open.
    Southern Aroostook started the game in the lead 19-14 and the score was knotted at intermission, 36-all, In the third, Washburn built a 51-44 lead en route to the win.
    Bragg finished with 25 points, including six 3-pointers for Washburn, while Mackenzie Worcester was a perfect 12 for 12 at the foul line and finishing with a 21-point effort.
    For SACS, Kennedi Smith scored 18 points, while Sable Altvater and Mataya Hartin each tossed in 14.
    The Lady Warriors raced by visiting Hodgdon last Friday, 60-14, as Altvater dropped in 21 points, while Smith, Tucker and Raymond each had 10 points.
    Hodgdon’s Summer Stoddard finished with seven points.
    The SACS girls took an 18-0 lead and cruised.
    Last Friday in Stacyville, the Lady Cougars lost to Bangor Christian, 47-30.
    Leading the way for Katahdin was Molly Cunningham with 10, Morgan Livezey and Courtney Stevens each chipped in with nine points. For Bangor Christian, Abby Cross poured in 14 points and Maggie McDonald added 12.
    The Katahdin girls routed host Central Aroostook, 82-34, last Thursday.
    The Lady Cougars led 15-4; 34-14; and 56-21 at the breaks.
    Courtney Stevens paced Katahdin with 19 points, while Molly Cunningham posted 18. Cassidy Quint tossed in 11 and Georgia Landry added nine.
    For the Lady Panthers, Karli Levesque scored a game-high 22 points.
    Last Tuesday night, the Katahdin girls suffered a 71-36 setback against Schenck, as Morgan Thompson poured in 40 points to key the Wolverines.
    Stevens led Katahdin with 13 points and Delaney Fitzpatrick chipped in with eight.
    Schenck led from the onset of the game 12-9 and 29-23 at halftime before opening the game up in the third outscoring Katahdin, 18-4, for a 47-27 cushion.
