ACAP marks Dental Health Month
Aroostook County Action Program, Inc. will be celebrating National Children’s Dental Health Month at all center locations during the month of February.
Children enrolled in Head Start, Early Head Start, child care, and the Supplemental Nutritional Program for Women Infants & Children (WIC) will receive oral health education activities emphasizing the importance of oral health as a component of overall health and wellness. Oral health education and screenings are integrated into all ACAP Family Services programs.
On Thursday, Feb. 13, ACAP is holding a celebration at the 44 Park Street location for Head Start, Early Head Start, child care and WIC children. As an Oral Health America program, ACAP received a donation of Dr. Fresh Firefly® toothbrushes that will be distributed to all the children attending the event. Crystal Cummings, ACAP’s community education specialist for oral health, will also be visiting each classroom to provide oral health education. The children will also receive a cup filled with educational material and other dental products.
ACAP received generous donations of a dental chair and a portable suction unit, which have been installed in the ACAP oral health office. Many thanks to Dr. Belden and Dr. Cassidy for their donations and support of the children’s oral health services ACAP provides. As a result of this donation, ACAP’s public health dental hygienist, Lucy Morin, is able to provide ongoing dental screenings, cleaning, fluoride and sealants for children enrolled in ACAP programs.
