The Nordic ski season in Aroostook County came to a close last Tuesday with the final meet being the league championship in freestyle, which took place in Madawaska. Sarah Beaulieu of Fort Fairfield came in fourth place in the meet with a time of 21:44. She finished behind only Hannah Streinz of Katahdin (18:00) and Caribou’s Sarah Doak (20:05) and Lauren Chapman (21:31) in the overall standings.
Lillian Ashby, Sarah Watt and Jordan Coiley were the other competitors for the Tigers, which placed fourth out of six teams. Caribou won the title with 17 points.
Amanda Palmer, Alyssa Sweeney and Emily Colligan were the racers for the Presque Isle Wildcats, which placed sixth.
For the boys, Caribou again was the team champion with 19 points.
Presque Isle’s Nick Bartlett placed 12th in 19:04 to lead his team, while teammate Gannon Therrien was 14th in 19:25 and Noah Rossignol, also on the Wildcats, 16th in 19:46. PI had 68 points to take fourth place overall.
Thomas Krause came in 21:10 for the Fort Fairfield Tigers.
Daniel Streinz of Katahdin came in first place in 15:29.
The Tigers compete beginning today and continuing Thursday in the Class C state Nordic meet to be held at Black Mountain in Rumford. Presque Isle is at Carrabassett Valley in the Sugarloaf region for racing slated for Thursday and Friday.
The alpine state meets will be held beginning later this month.
