PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Officials at the Aroostook State Park have been grooming trails and doing other tasks in preparation for the seventh annual Winter Family Fun Day, scheduled for this Saturday, Feb. 22. “Come spend a winter’s day at the park. We have everything you need to have fun with the family. Enjoy the great outdoors in Aroostook County’s winter wonderland,” said Scott Thompson, the park’s executive director.
Thompson said there will be a variety of activities for folks of all ages.
“There’s cross country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating (conditions permitting and you must provide your own skates), the sliding hill, snowmobile ‘tote’ rides, guided interpretive walks, bonfires and hot food for lunch. Smokey the Bear will come out of hibernation and Mr. Moose will join in the day’s fun,” he said.
If you don’t have equipment or know how to use it? That’s not a problem according to Thompson.
“Don’t worry. We have all of that, including expert instruction. All you need is to wear warm clothing and want to have fun,” said Thompson.
The event begins at 10 a.m. and runs through 3 p.m. The fee for adults, ages 12-64, is $1.50 per person. Everyone else is free. Lunch is provided. For more information, call 768-8341.
