The Caribou girls and boys picked up Aroostook League championships in Nordic skiing last Tuesday.
The Vikes swept the freestyle meets held in Madawaska, with the girls scoring 17 points to defeat second-place Fort Kent by 19 and besting four other schools. The boys compiled 19 points, which was 12 better than runner-up Fort Kent. They also finished ahead of four other schools. In the overall County Nordic standings, which also included classic-style results from the previous week, Caribou came in first place for both girls and boys.
For the individual results last Tuesday, the top girls’ racers from the Vikings were Sarah Doak, who was second in 20:05; Lauren Chapman, third in 21:31; Kendra Furber, fifth in 21:45; and Madeline Gudde, seventh in 22:36.
On the boys’ side, five Viking skiers were among the top 10. They were Keith Draper, second in 17:17; Riley McDuffie, fourth in 18:06; Michael Marquis, fifth in 18:10; Tyler Strid, eighth in 18:38; and Elijah Verhoff, ninth in 18:48.
Thomas Krause came in with a time of 21:10.
