CARIBOU — Looking forward to that spring-cleaning spirit, 11 local businesses are ready to make room for new merchandise by participating in a citywide clearance sale under the name of Le Grand Ménage; businesses will get that extra space, and consumers will get some pretty sweet deals.
Director of the Caribou Area Chamber of Commerce William Tasker is pretty excited about the collaborative sale, as it’s something that’s been discussed for about a year.
Tasker said that Deborah Sutherland of Brambleberry Market had the idea last year, but the group didn’t have enough time to properly prepare for and market the spring event.
This past December, however, Caribou residents experienced the shopping extraordinaire that was Caribou Hometown Christmas, and Le Grand Ménage aims to keep that spirit going on Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, March 1.
“This is the second event we’ve had where the retailers have gotten together for an event and cooperated with each other, and that type of cooperation with the retailers in Caribou — that’s just exciting to me,” Tasker said.
Folks can expect to see signs sprouting up around town announcing participation in the weekend sale, and Tasker hopes that the event might even draw a couple of shoppers who are looking for a nice biathlon break. (Presque Isle is hosting the IBU Youth/Junior World Championships the same weekend.)
“There’s 11 places in the city where you can get a clearance deal on everything from tools, to house décor, to window furnishings to snowmobile wares — there’s all sorts of things they can buy all over town,” Tasker described.
Maps are available to easily access participating stores, and additional information can be found by visiting the Chamber’s Facebook page or by calling 498-6156.
