The University of Maine at Presque Isle is hosting a Brain Art Contest, underway now and specifically for local K-12 students, as part of its Brain Awareness Week activities in early March.

Entries are due Feb. 28 and may be dropped off at the Wintergreen Art Center. The categories are: My brain protects me by… for grades K-2; I protect my brain by… for grades 3-5; and Brain disease in our culture or Preventing brain disease for grades 6-12.
Students’ artwork will be on display at Wintergreen for Presque Isle’s First Friday Downtown Art Walk on March 7.
A winners’ ceremony will be held on Thursday, March 13, from 5:30-7 p.m., at UMPI’s Campus Center, during another Brain Awareness Week activity, the Ceramic Brain Painting event. Prizes will be awarded to the winning student artists in each of the categories. Local teachers are encouraged to have their students enter their artwork in the contest as the event links closely with the Next Generation Science Standards being adopted in Maine at the middle and high school levels.
